About the Organisation

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts recruitment examinations for various ministries, departments, and offices under the Government of India. The JSA/LDC LDCE is a departmental promotion-oriented examination that enables eligible Group ‘C’ and Multi-Tasking Staff employees to move into Junior Secretariat Assistant and Lower Division Clerk positions.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have:

• Passed Class 12th (Higher Secondary) or equivalent from a recognised board.
• For Railway Board Secretariat Clerical Service, candidates must qualify the prescribed typing test within one year of appointment.

Service Requirement

Candidates must:

• Be regularly appointed Group ‘C’ employees or Multi-Tasking Staff in participating cadres.
• Have completed at least three years of regular service in the prescribed grade.
• Submit applications through the Head of Department/Office.

Important Eligibility Condition

This examination is not open to fresh candidates, graduates from the public, private-sector employees, or candidates working in non-participating departments.

The descriptive essay paper carries 100 marks and often becomes the biggest differentiator among candidates. Departmental candidates should focus on structured writing, administrative topics, governance issues, and current affairs-based essays.

The objective paper is equally important and contains General English or Hindi along with General Knowledge. Candidates should regularly revise current affairs, government schemes, constitutional developments, and office-related administrative knowledge. Those opting for English can strengthen grammar, comprehension, and vocabulary through structured English practice resources. Similarly, daily current affairs preparation remains essential because the General Knowledge section often includes recent national developments.

Since APAR evaluation contributes 60 marks to the final merit, candidates with strong service records gain a meaningful advantage during final selection.
