SSC CHSL 2026 Important Application and Exam Rules

  • Candidates can select three examination centres, but all three must fall within the same SSC Region.
  • Aadhaar authentication during the registration/application process is optional.
  • The application photograph is captured live through the prescribed SSC application facility.
  • Tier-I now operates with separate sectional time limits as stated in the 2026 notification.
  • Tier-II objective sections also operate with fixed module-wise timings.
  • Skill Test/Typing Test is qualifying in nature but mandatory for the applicable post.
  • Hindi Typing/Skill Test candidates must use Mangal Font.
  • Candidates will be required to submit their post/department preferences through SSC's online option process before the final result. Once exercised, these preferences are treated as final.
  • Candidates who do not submit post preferences within the stipulated period will not be considered for any post in the final result.
  • Only male candidates are eligible for vacancies, if any, reported in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

SSC CHSL 2026 Post Preference and Final Allocation

SSC CHSL is conducted for multiple Ministries, Departments and Offices. Candidates will be asked to submit their preferences for available posts and departments through an online option form before declaration of the final result.

The preference submitted by the candidate is treated as final and irreversible. Final post and department allocation depends on merit, preference, eligibility and vacancy availability. Candidates should therefore study the pay level, post requirements, departmental conditions and location implications before submitting their preferences.

SSC CHSL Recruitment 2026 Preparation Focus

The introduction of strict sectional timing means candidates cannot compensate for a slow section by borrowing time from another section. Preparation should therefore focus not only on overall mock-test scores but also on completing each subject within its individual time limit.

Tier-I gives only 15 minutes to each of the four sections, so candidates should build speed in English and Reasoning while keeping calculation accuracy high in Quantitative Aptitude. The 0.50-mark negative marking also makes uncontrolled guessing risky.

General Awareness remains an important scoring area in both Tier-I and Tier-II. Candidates can strengthen daily preparation through daily current affairs, revise long-term facts through Static GK and test recall regularly with the daily current affairs quiz.

LDC/JSA candidates should begin typing practice well before Tier-II because the required speed is 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi. DEO aspirants should practise timed data-entry passages according to the 8,000 or 15,000 key-depressions-per-hour standard applicable to their post.
