About the University of Kashmir

The University of Kashmir, established in 1948, is one of the premier higher education institutions in India. Located in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, the university serves as the Nodal Agency for the Jammu & Kashmir State Eligibility Test (JKSET/LASET). The examination determines the eligibility of candidates for appointment as Assistant Professors in universities and colleges across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and also provides eligibility for admission to Ph.D. programmes.

JKSET Eligibility Criteria 2026

Candidates must satisfy the prescribed educational qualifications before submitting the application.

Educational Qualification

• Master's Degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognized University.
• General category candidates must secure at least 55% marks.
• SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PwD/Third Gender candidates require 50% marks.
• Final-year or final-semester postgraduate students may apply provisionally.
• Ph.D. holders whose Master's examination was completed on or before 19 September 1991 are eligible for a 5% relaxation in qualifying marks.
• Candidates should ordinarily appear in the subject of their postgraduate degree.

JKSET Age Limit

The official notification does not prescribe any upper or lower age limit for appearing in the JKSET/LASET 2026 examination.

JKSET Selection Process

JKSET is an eligibility examination, not a direct recruitment process.

The selection process consists of:

1. Written Examination (Paper I & Paper II)
2. Declaration of Result
3. Eligibility Certificate for Qualified Candidates
4. Document Verification (if required)

Candidates qualifying the examination become eligible to apply for Assistant Professor posts and Ph.D. admission as per applicable rules.

Important Instructions

• Submit the application before the last date to avoid server issues.
• Applications submitted after the deadline will only be accepted with the prescribed late fee until 25 August 2026.
• The application fee is non-refundable.
• No hard copy of the application form is required to be sent.
